13 Biblical Reasons for Healing

13 Biblical Reasons for Healing

A number of years ago I was at a conference and some friends prophesied over me. They told me that I would have a healing ministry. At first I laughed it off. I hadn’t really ever had a prophetic word before, and having a healing ministry sounded a little far fetched considering I had never seen God heal anyone before! But five minutes later they brought someone to me who needed healing, and told me I had to pray for her.

I laid my hand on her back where there was something going wrong. I commanded it to leave (as my friends told me what to say and do). Then we asked if there was any change. I didn’t think anything had happened and I wondered off.

A few years later I bumped into this person again. However this time she asked me if I remembered that time when God healed her back. I told her I didn’t think she was healed, and she said it was. She even said she had told me on the night that she was healed – but I didn’t believe her! Even though I had so little faith, God still healed my friend because He is a God of love.

I understand that not everyone we pray for receives the manifestation of their healing. But in the circles I am in the more people we pray for the more people we see healed. These days its more of a surprise if someone is not healed than if they are. Times have changed!

So to encourage those who may be still waiting for your healing to manifest, or apprehensive about healing, or just a loyal reader of my blog, I present to you “13 Biblical Reasons for Healing.”

Biblical Reason for Healing #1
God’s Kingdom
 – “Your Kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.” (Matthew 6) Well, there are no hospitals in heaven! No pain or sickness up there, so God doesn’t want it down here. Its pretty simple, Jesus told us to pray this way! If we truly believe God wants to establish the Kingdom of God on Earth then we must not allow anything on Earth that is not in Heaven; this includes sickness.

Biblical Reason for Healing #2
God’s Will
– “Jesus gave them this answer: “I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does.” (John 5) Jesus only did what He saw His Father doing. When we look at Jesus we look at the will of God, and Jesus healed the sick all the time. Therefore we know that it is God’s will to heal the sick. God has not changed, neither has His will.

Biblical Reason for Healing #3
God’s Name
 – “And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father.” (John 14) To some people, using the phrase, “In Jesus name” is a bit too superstitious. But Jesus’ name has power and authority! Here Jesus tells us that if we pray in Jesus name He will do it! Wow! What a promise to cling on to! So pray in Jesus Mighty name!

Biblical Reason for Healing #4
God’s Power
 – “All these are the work of one and the same Spirit.” (1 Cor 12) In this passage we are told about all these incredible super power gifts! Some say, “I don’t have that gift…” But the passage tells us that the real power comes from the Spirit! If you have the Spirit you have the gift, simply speak in faith!

Biblical Reason for Healing #5
God’s Authority
 – “He called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out evil spirits and to heal every disease and sickness.” (Matthew 10) Jesus gave His followers authority over every single disease and demon! If you are a follower of Jesus, you have that authority too! Wow! So, use the authority God has given you!

Biblical Reason for Healing #6
God’s Command
 – “Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.” (Matthew 10) Have you ever wondered, “Should I pray for so and so…” Well, here’s the answer, YES! God has commanded you to heal the sick, raise the dead, boot out demons etc! So don’t disobey! Just do it!

Biblical Reason for Healing #7
God’s Compassion
– “When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick.” (Matthew 14:14). God loves people! So when He sees people who are sick He has compassion on them. We see this right throughout Scripture. Gods compassion is powerful, it is compelling, and when the compassion of God meets sickness, people are healed.

Biblical Reason for Healing #8
God’s Presence
– “She came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak, and immediately her bleeding stopped.” (Luke 8:44) God is light and there is no darkness in Him at all. Sin and sickness are darkness, and so when we come into Gods light, that is His presence, sickness runs away! We are filled with the presence of God, so lets chase away some sickness!

Biblical Reason for Healing #9
God’s Paid for it
– “But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.” (Isaiah 53:5) When Jesus died on the cross He took our sins and sickness to the grave with Him. The curses that came about because of sin (Gen 3) were reversed at the cross. This includes sickness. By Jesus wounds we are healed! Jesus has already paid for your healing!

Biblical Reason for Healing #10
God’s Destroying
 – “The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.” (1John3:8) As we look through the Scriptures we see Jesus rebuking demons that are causing sickness. (For example Matthew 17:18 and Mark 9:25). Jesus came to destroy sickness as it is not of God. God is good, sickness is bad. Sickness doesn’t come from God, healing and wholeness comes from God.

Biblical Reason for Healing #11
God’s Life
– “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” (John 10:10) Sickness takes away life. Sickness steals life and wholeness, it kills us, it destroys us. On the other hand Jesus has come to give us life and life to the full! When people are healed they are given life! Jesus has come to give people life and life to the full!

Biblical Reason for Healing #12
God’s Promise
 – “And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands.” Wow! If you believe in Jesus these things WILL follow you! Incredible. Ask yourself, are you believing? Because if you are these things will follow you! How cool is that?

Biblical Reason for Healing #13
God’s Glory
– “When he heard this, Jesus said, “This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God’s glory so that God’s Son may be glorified through it.” (John 11:4) Healing is known as a “sign and wonder.” As it is a sign it must point to something. Healing miracles point straight back to Jesus Christ, they bring glory to God. Healing brings glory to God. What a great reason to be involved in healing ministry!
